There we go. That fixed it. Wrong php version. I set it to 5.3 (native) and viola, works perfectly again. Now to find out if and how that changed. *sigh of relief*.

Oh ok! Looking at cPanel, php 5.3 must have some auto settings that work perfectly. But I can tick/untick a number of boxes when selecting php 5.4. See the screenshot: here

Updating to never version of PHP fixed mine just like conorseed. Somehow I was on PHP 5.2 but it is was 5.2.17 (minimum is 5.2.24) Changed my settings to 5.5 and I'm up and running again.
