3spos on "Image upload corrupts small images, but larger images are fine"

I've just installed a fresh copy of Wordpress 4.5.3 using a windows server and IIS.

The wordpress site installs fine but when I upload small images I get a broken link image in the preview. However, when I upload a larger image it uploads and previews fine.

I would be grateful if someone can assist me with this please.
