I can't reproduce this on my system, it might be a conflict with another plugin (aka WP Statistics + plugin b = problem). Try disabling your other plugins but not WP Statistics and see if it still fails.
We don't use any of the xml-rpc code, so it's doubtful WP Statistics would break it by itself.
